Now much more attention is given to the terroir. To plant each grape in a suitable soil, to lower the yields and to pay attention to all details, these are the new rules for the ambitious wine producers. South Africa is a champion of low-cost wines but you don’t have to pay that much more to feel the difference. And it is worth it.
We travel often to the South African Winelands and every time we meet new, exciting winemakers and we discover wines that amazes us fort their drinkability and freshness. The wines from the South Coast net least. In Elgin, Bod River, Walker Bay and even further east along the coast, some very interesting wines from for instance sauvignon blanc, chenin blanc and pinotage are made. But the classic regions of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek also have their share of innovation and desire to experiment.
