Truffles, Olive Oil and Wine

In Southern Rhône/Provence

February, 14-18

Example of a tour

031004-3-k602-30-0007050302-174-7440

Haven’t you always dreamed of going truffle hunting? Now you have the opportunity! Join us on this trip in February to the southern part of the Rhône Valley, in Provence. We will go truffle hunting, learn how to make olive oil and of course, taste a lot of good wines.

We will spend one morning hunting for truffles with a truffle farmer and his dogs. The truffle we are looking for is the most expensive of the black truffles, the tuber melanosporum, known us the Perigord Truffle (and also called the black diamond because of the high price!). Afterwards we will have a magnificent truffle lunch at the farm. We will also visit a marché aux truffes (truffle market).

Also on the programme is a visit to an olive oil producer where we will learn about the process of making olive olive and taste different types of oils made from different olives (olive oil is much like wine in that respect, different olives give different tastes to the oil). And we will visit several interesting wine producers in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas and Coteaux d’Aix en Provence.

Preliminary program

About the wine estates we visit

040517-1-111-CRW_1161_JFRWe want you to experience the best and the most interesting. We put a lot of effort into finding really good producers to visit. Often, contrary to what one might think, the most exciting wine producers are not the "famous names". The passionately engaging visits happen when you meet the winemaker or the owner himself (or quite often herself) and his family, and start discussing and und understanding how things "work". And maybe even have lunch at the winery (and it is not like in the US where many wineries have restaurants). That's also why this trip does not have a large number of visits on the programme. But even so, we often run short of time, since when you start discussing with the winemaker, and tasting more and more of his wines, time flies.

The trip is a mixture of small family producers and larger, well known wine estates - carefully selected to give you the unique wine experience.

All visits are not finalised at the time of publishing the programme since we continuously work on improving it. But don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or if you want more details.

We start the day with a visit to a marché aux truffes.

After that we will visit a truffle farm and go truffle hunting with the owner and his dogs. Afterwards we will have a magnificent 6-courses truffle lunch.

Olive oil is getting more and more popular and no wonder, considering the good taste and the health benefits. We will visit a producer of olive oil and we will learn the process of making olive oil and we will have a tasting that will show the big differences between different types of oil.
