Cellers de Scala Dei, Scala Dei
One of the traditional wine producers in the small village Scala Dei. They use
a lot of Garnacha, slow fermentation and long maceration with the grape
skins to extract as much colour and aromas as possible for the wines. One of their best
wines, Negre Scala Dei, is made in a more modern style though.

The village is surrounded by immense mountains. It's at high altitude but still in a valley so is scorching hot in summer

Every little piece of land that is not vertical is terraced. Some of it is used for growing wine today and some is wilderness. But sometime long ago someone built the terraces

This is the village, the whole village and nothing but the village. Including the ex-monastery and winery. Don't forget the bread when you go shopping...
