E Guigal, Ampuis
The Guigals make a third of all wine from Côte Rôtie! They own no more
than 12 hectares but buy a lot of grapes from smaller growers. Thus Guigal
has almost become synonymous with Côte Rôtie wine. Etienne Guigal, who died in
1988, and his son Marcel, the current head of the company has contributed
enormously to make the appellation well known for wines of outstanding
quality.

Look at the
top of these vats: the two in the middle each have four black columns
sticking up. That is the pneumatic pigeage system, to "submerge the cap"
