Historically, there were a lot of vineyards
around Paris since transporting wine was difficult and much wine was drunk in
Paris. Even at the end of the 19th
century quite a few vineyards still existed. But during the 20th century most
disappeared, or almost disappeared. Lately, some of these vineyards have been
"revived" with new plantings or as a local curiosity. The most famous vineyard
in Paris is of course the one in Montmartre, where every year there is
a big party at the time of the harvest.
Here you will find pictures from some, but far
from all, of the vineyards that currently exist in or around Paris.
