The Rendez-Vous du Chenin is an annual event
organised by the Union des Oenologues de France. It brings together Chenin
Blanc wines from all over the world with the aim to improve the profile of
and promote the wines from Chenin. It takes a refreshingly eclectic
approach to tasting the wines in taking no particular consideration of the
appellations of the wines. The overall aim is to "discover and give
recognition to the most beautiful expressions of this noble varietal and
its great potential, not forgetting its aptitude to express terroir".
In the 2004 edition of this event 210 wines were
tasted by a panel of 53 wine experts from 12 countries. Eight wine producing countries were represented: France and South
Africa of course but also India, Mexico, Thailand, New Zealand, Australia,
and the USA.
