When the wine ferments in the barrels in the cellar carbon dioxide is released. This is odourless and colourless but it can kill you from suffocation. To avoid this there is an extraction fan that is turned on when there is wine fermenting M le Directeur of Charles H Genot Some old barrel faucets in the cellars of xxx   Red wine fermenting in the barrel

The vines here are often trained high (taille haute) as opposed to the Cote de Nuits itself where they are normally trained low M Hudelot of Domain Montmain has created a substantial domaine over the years In this case the vines are trained on four wires: two at the top and the two others at different levels lower down

Probably Gamay, but could also be Chardonnay since JP Brun makes some excellent white beaujolais He does not invest in outside publicity. In Cote de Beaune: a vineyard worker far away. All the wires used for training the vines on give some vineyards a curiously shiny, metallic look Vineyards in Cote de Beaune This is a little plastic device used for 'confusion sexuelle' (sexual confusion). It contains a substance the confuses some of the insects so that they reproduce less and therefore cause less problems in the vineyard An old vine with new shoots that will in time be trained on the horizontal wires La Romanée Conti ( la romanee conti )

Newly planted vines, probably planted last year. It will take another couple of years before they can be used for wine production A vineyard patch that will soon be replanted The Clos de Vougeot, but not the usual perspective. Here, from the back Some growers remove all grass and other growth between the vines (considering it to be better). Other growers keep it (equally considering that to be better). Here you can see both philosophies side by side
