Dominique Haverlans' family has been wine growers for three generations. When
Dominique bought Vieux Château Gaubert in 1988 it
was very run down. He has been renovating and replanting ever since. His wines,
both red and white, have been much acclaimed and Vieux Gaubert is definitely one
of the rising stars in Graves.

The best way to tell a Merlot from a
Cabernet Sauvignon is from the leaves: The Merlot is bigger, waffled,
and openings are less overlapping. CS is smaller, smoother and with more
overlap
So, a Cabernet Sauvignon: not
waffled, overlaps and quite small. A Cabernet Franc is similar but with
a small point at the bottom of the openings
