Wine Tour to the Rhône Valley

Côte Rôtie, Condrieu, Saint-Joseph, Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage, Cornas

20030615_2_0034     20030615_3_21_0009     20030615_2_0033

This is the trip to join if you love the spicy and fruity wines from the Northern Rhone and if you want to learn all the secrets of the Syrah grape. It will of course be mostly red wines here in Northern Rhone but we will also taste a number of whites: flowery Viognier (think of Condrieu and Chateau Grillet) and powerful Marsanne/Rousanne wines.

img1-010Our base will be the small town of Vienne, just south of Lyons. It is easy to reach from the airport i Lyons and by train. During the three days we will travel south along the river and visit Côte Rôtie, Condrieu, Saint-Joseph, Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage, Cornas and som others.

There are today numerous high quality producers in these districts. We will visit two or three each day (depending on e.g. travel distance). Some examples of producers that we are likely to visit: Guigal, Jaboulet, with their fabulous new wine cellar Vineum, Yves Cuilleron (Condrieu and Saint-Joseph), Pierre Coursodon (Saint-Joseph), Domaine du Colombier (Crozes-Hermitage) and the brand new star Domaine du Tunnel (Cornas, Saint-Peray).

img3-001Vienne was a very important city during Roman times and several Roman ruins tell an eloquent story. And even at that time the wine from Vienne was famous in Rome. The Roman theatre was one of the largest in the Empire and definitely worth a visit. At the time it had 13,000 seats and the acoustics is still impressive. A nice place for an aperitif before dinner is one of the cafés around the “Temple d’Auguste et Livia”. And here you will also find some good restaurant where you can relax after a long day in the vineyards.

To assure that our visits are of high quality and that we get a personal welcome we will be a group of not more than around 18 participants.

img045Contact me if on email or phone if you have any questions or if you want more details about the tour. The full and detailed program will be available at a later date.
