Uncorked: Under this heading we collect various wines that we have tasted, and liked, recently. It can be wines that we have had during dinner at home, at wine tastings, press lunches, visits to vineyards, or other occasions.

We describe the wines just with a few short sentences, tasting notes that we hope will give you a short but accurate impression of what we thought of the wine, without delving into finer points tasting notes.

Some inspiration for more wine discoveries! As well as a perspective on what to expect from older wines.

This month we have had many very delicious wines, not least whites. Both young and old. And old who feels young.

  • Rioja 2008 Reserva Selección de la Familia, Bodegas Luis Cañas

An elegant wine in rather soft style with lots of fruits and berries. It has some character and personality maybe thanks to the old vines and the low yield. The vineyard is located in the district of Rioja Alavesa.

  • Fino Sherry, Bodegas Rey Fernando de Castilla

A very dry fino indeed. Lovely as an aperitif or with the starter. Bodega owned by a Norwegian guy, Jan Pettersen.

  • Chateau Corbin Michotte, Saint Emilion Grand Cru 1999

High-class Bordeaux with fine maturity. Elegant and still quite fresh. Delicious.

  • Edetària 2011, Terra Alta, Katalonien, Spanien

A white wine made with 85 % Garnacha Blanca and the rest Macabeu. The wine is fermented and aged in new French barrels of 500 litres. On the nose there are spices and a little honey. Good concentration and richness on the palate. Very good wine. Edetària is a leading property in the DO Terra Alta in Catalonia, in north-eastern Spain.

  • Els Amelers 2012, La Fou Celler, Terra Alta, Katalonien, Spanien

Another fantastic white wine from Terra Alta. Very intense and with the somewhat fat character, so typical for white Garnacha/Grenache. The nose is discreet but the taste of white flowers and apricots is long and rich.

  • Vouvray 2001, Le Portail, Domaine Champalou

A marvellous dry Vouvray that proves again the ageing ability of Chenin Blanc. Young in style with aromas of citrus, grapefruit and small honey tone. Rich in taste with an intense concentration. Fermentation was made in 450 liter oak barrels, ageing on the lees for 18 months.

  • Clos des Langres 2010, Domaine d’Ardhuy, Côtes de Nuits-Villages

An elegant Burgundy with lovely pinot noir aromas and well structured. Very good wine. Clos des Langres is a 3-hectare vineyard on the boundary with the Cotes de Beaune. It is now under conversion to biodynamic farming.

  • Le Clement du Château Pape Clement 1995

The second wine of Chateau Pape Clement from 1995 years have mastered the years with flying colours. Aromas of cedar wood, good fruit, still very fresh. Quite elegant. Very drinkable. A delicious wine.

  • Savennières Les Caillardières 2001, Domaine du Closel

A nice wine that has matured well. Typical Chenin Blanc aromas of honey and beeswax. Fullbodied, dry and with a fresh acidity.

  • Château Respide-Medeville 2010, Graves blanc sec

A dry wine from Graves in Bordeaux. Rather unpretentious but drinks very well. Aromatic and fresh.

  • Saumur Champigny 2011, Domaine des Roches Neuves

Thierry Germain at Domaine des Roches Neuves is one of our favourites in the Loire Valley. This is a superb cabernet franc, quite full bodied but still with elegance and finess.

  • Les Genêts 2000 blanc, Château Pech-Redon, Languedoc-La Clape

A white Languedoc that has aged with grace. Nose of peaches and melon. Full-bodied and a little bit of oxidation, but really very little. Delicious. We paid 55 FFr for this wine in 2001.

  • Gevrey-Chambertin 1992, Sérafin Père & Fils

A really delicious red Burgundy. Velvety on the palate, exactly like a Burgundy should be. It has aged beautifully and is now very well balanced.

  • Pernand Vergelesses blanc 1994, Louis Jadot

I tasted this wine blind and my guess was 2010. Thus a very youngish white Burgundy with some oak character and the typical fullness of the Chardonnay grape.

  • Château Haut Troquet La Grace Dieu, Cuvée Passion 2007, Saint Emilion Grand Cru

2007 was a medium year in Bordeaux and this wine is very good to drink now although it still has the structure of a young Bordeaux. The typical Bordeaux aromas like cedar wood and black currents are there as well.

  • Desmentia Vino da Tavola Rosso 2010

A Nebbiolo wine made by Spinettas winemaker Mazetta Stephano. Light in colour, very elegant wine with fresh acidity and good tannins, superb with food. Very good indeed.
