Kaefferkopf new Grand Cru in Alsace

img009INAO, the French control authority for the appellation system, has approved Kaefferkopf as a new Grand Cru area in Alsace. Permitted grape varieties in the wine are Gewurztraminer, Riesling and Pinot Gris (previously Tokay d’Alsace). The wine can be made from a single grape variety, in which case the name is indicated on the label, or from a mix of grapes in proportions: 60-80% Gewurz, 10-40% Riesling, and maximum 30% Pinot Gris.
